Life Doesn't Stop Planning and Celebrating Milestones with Cancer

Let’s talk about something that’s a bit of a taboo: planning your life when you’ve got cancer. I know, I know, the moment you hear the “C-word,” it feels like everything’s got to be on hold. Holidays, parties, even dinner plans seem like they’re out of the question. But guess what? That’s not entirely true. Life doesn’t stop just because you’re living with cancer. Let’s break down some myths and get real about planning when you’ve got cancer.

Living for Today

First off, cancer has this weird way of making you super aware of the here and now. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s like a wake-up call to enjoy the little things, like a good cup of coffee or a sunset. So why not plan some small outings or events to enjoy those moments even more?

Be a Realist, Not a Pessimist

Sure, you might have to put some big plans on the back burner, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do anything fun. Maybe you can’t jet off to Bali right now, but how about a weekend road trip? Or a cozy movie night at home with friends? The point is, you can still plan stuff; you’ve just got to be a bit more flexible.

Phone a Friend

Planning anything while you’re juggling doctor’s appointments and treatments is tough. But you don’t have to go it alone. Your mates, your family, or even online support groups are there to help. Don’t be shy about asking for a hand or an ear.

Knowledge is Power

The more you know about what you’re dealing with, the better you can plan around it. If you know you’re gonna be wiped out for a few days after chemo, plan some chill time. If you’ve got a “good week” coming up, that’s the time to get social or get things in the diary.

Celebrate the Wins

Got through a round of treatment? That’s awesome! Got some good news? Even better! These are milestones worth celebrating. It doesn’t have to be a blowout party; even a small dinner or a night out can lift your spirits.

Don’t Forget Your Brain

Cancer’s a physical battle, but it’s a mental one too. So plan for some self-care. Whether it’s meditation, therapy, or just a walk in the park, make time for stuff that makes you feel good inside.

7. Roll With the Punches

Life’s uncertain, and cancer just makes that super clear. But hey, that’s all the more reason to make plans and live it up when you can. You might have to adjust or even cancel sometimes, but that’s okay. The point is to keep living and enjoying what you can, when you can.

Wrapping It Up

So there you have it. Cancer’s tough, no doubt about it. But it doesn’t mean you’ve gotta put your life on pause. You can still make plans, have fun, and do your thing. It’s all about adapting and finding joy where you can. So go ahead, plan that movie night, that weekend getaway, or whatever makes you happy. You’ve got this!
