When Chemo's done

Alright, let’s have a look at life after chemo because, it’s not all a bed of roses is it? You’ve done the hard work, and now everyone reckons you’ll just bounce back to the old you, pre-cancer. But here’s the thing: that might not be the smartest move, and here’s why.

Don’t Get Too Cosy

First off, once the chemo’s done and dusted, it’s easy to slip back into your comfy old habits. But hold your horses; this is where you’ve got to watch your step. Cancer’s crafty, and it loves it when you get too cosy with the old ways. We’re talking the cheeky takeaways, the boozy nights, and skiving off the exercise. We’ve all been there, but these might just give cancer the wake up call it needs.

Rethink the Old Routines

Listen, nobody’s saying you can’t have a good time, but post-chemo life’s a bit like walking a tightrope. You’ve got to find that sweet spot between living it up and keeping it healthy. It’s all about tweaking the routines – less fry-up, more fibre; swap the pints for a nice cuppa more often than not.

Mind Games

And it’s not just your body you’ve got to keep on the straight and narrow; your mental health needs checking in on too. When you’ve had cancer, every little sniffle or twinge can have you fretting. It can mess with your head a bit if you’re not careful.

Slow and Steady Wins the Race

Dramatic life overhauls? Nah, that’s not the right way. Think more ‘slow and steady’. A brisk walk here, a few veggies there – it’s the long game we’re after. No fad diets or bonkers exercise regimes that’ll have you throwing in the towel before you’ve barely started.

Your Mates and Your Family

Your mates and your family might expect you to be the life and soul again, downing shots and closing down the pub. But it’s okay to tell them you’re changing the record. Surround yourself with people who get it, who’ll cheer you on as you order a salad instead of chips.

It’s a New Dawn, It’s a New Day

So, what’s the takeaway from all this? It’s about crafting a new normal. It’s about making peace with the fact that the shadow of cancer might always be lurking, but not letting it run the show. It’s about finding that balance of keeping your eyes peeled for signs of trouble but also living your best life.

So, What Now?

After chemo, life’s not about hitting rewind back to the days before cancer showed up. It’s about pressing play on a new track. One that’s got a bit of the old tune, sure, but with a fresh beat that’s all about looking after yourself. It’s a blend of caution, courage, and a dollop of good cheer. So, here’s to living it large, in the healthiest way possible!
